Project Name : Integrated Instrument Cluster for connected EV targeted for E- Commerce.

Project Summary :

The project is a study and development of an instrument cluster that can improve the
driving experience of the driver or owner of the vehicle by providing features like onboard navigation features and customization of the user interface. The project is done in collaboration with Infineon Technologies, India.

The development of this project has three phases. In the first phase, primary objectives are getting the requirements from the Market survey, User survey and finalizing the wish specifications. In the second phase, the objectives are development of the hardware. In the third and final phase, the objectives are to test the software and hardware together for them to function in a stable manner.

The project overview is shown in the block diagram Figure 1. The hardware part of the project consists of central compute (Traveo-II) which is responsible for the 2D/3D rendering of the graphics to be displayed. The wireless capability (WiFi and Bluetooth) is extended to this central compute by PSoC6 board, which enables central compute to get the map data which has to be rendered and provide the sensor data to PSoC6 to be uploaded to the cloud. Both of the micro-controllers communicate over UART/I2C for data transfer.The vehicle data is captured by several sensors like GPS sensor, IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit) and Battery fuel gauge. A lot of data is gathered by vehicle’s ECU which is tapped using CAN interface. JTAG and ETM debugger interfaces are provided on the board for debugging purpose.

The software part consists of a cloud server which is responsible for handling the re-quests from the board and provide the map data for navigation and storing vehicle’s current telemetry/status data. The central compute runs a FreeRTOS which handles the tasks of rendering, communicating with the PSoC6 daughter board and capturing sensor values. We can reprogram the graphics as per our requirements by flashing the program.

The design of PCB is done to accommodate all the sensors, interactive buttons and
indicating LEDs. Interference of high speed signals with onboard antennas of GPS and WiFi modules is taken care. Both the boards are attached to each other to form a stack and whole stack is then attached with the enclosure.
